Container or Hypervisor?

A Hypervisor is the traditional type of VPS, with the hardware virtualised to duplicate system resources and make them available in isolated seperate environments, with resources such as CPU, Memory, Disk space, guaranteed to each Virtual Machine. Unlike a Container, the Operating System is not virtualised and so you maintain control of the operating system, patch levels and so on.

PCS Absctraction LayerWith a Container a single operating system is installed on the hardware however it is virtualised into indivdual Virtual Environments called Containers. The look and operate like real servers to the operator (you) and the end user however the management is and patch levels are maintained by the service provider (us), taking pressure off the end user. Containers are very flexible and more can be deployed to hardware than with Hypervisors and so they can be more cost effective.

With both environments the customer has full root access to the Cloud VPS and can install their own applications just like they would with a real server.

Our Eco Cloud VPS Servers

Our Eco Cloud VPS servers are each guaranteed a minimum resource limit comprising CPU, RAM and Disk. We load each of our Dell servers with a maximum of 15 VDS each to ensure that the committed resources are not exceeded. We further keep an amount of server resources in reserve to ensure spare capacity.

About our Cloud VPS

Our Cloud VPS are created and hosted using Parallels Cloud Server technology PCS Logowhich provides distributed cloud storage of Cloud VPS servers ensuring maximum availability and performance.

Additionally, our Cloud VPS platform has been custom configured and built to suit our own exacting requirements by our own in house software engineers.

All our Cloud VPS's are built on Dell Enterprise grade servers all of which are monitored and maintained to the highest standards and maintained regularly by our in house engineers.

Why Eco?

Because we firmly believe that this is a truly environmentally friendly approach to computing. The normal approach of using an entire server for something that doesn't need to be on an entire server is an outdated principle. We offer dedicated servers because some people do genuinely need them, but the fact is most people don't. By using a VDS you ensure that you:

Save valuable natural resources as a single server is shared by up to 15 VDS as opposed to 15 physical servers reducing the need to manufacture and transport 15 servers to us.

Save power - one single server appropriately specified to run VDS will be cheaper on power than a single Dell R210-II (currently our base dedicated server).

A server running a Cloud VPS will work hard but it will run efficiently compared to a single server idling most of the time.

It will generate less heat than running multiple physical servers to do the same job as the Cloud VPS contained on it and therefore require less cooling which again means less power.

It will require less rack space in the data centre reducing our requirement to consume data centre space.

Coupled with green data centre initiatives in place already we feel this produces an Eco-freindly approach to computing.
