Novell programmer heads for Google
Novell has lost one of its high-profile programmers to Google, it has emerged.
Open source website Groklaw has posted up a resignation letter from Jeremy Allison, in which he confirms that he has made the switch to the search engine giant.
Mr Allison writes that the reason for his resignation is rooted in Novell's patent agreement with Microsoft, which he sees as destroying the company's relationship with the open source community.
"Whilst the Microsoft patent agreement is in place there is nothing we can do to fix community relations […] The Microsoft patent agreement has put us outside the community and there is no positive aspect to that fact, and no way to make it so," reads the letter.
"Until the patent provision is revoked, we are pariahs."
Mr Allison rose to prominence for his programming work on Samba.
Filling the gap left by Mr Allison is Hubert Mantel, according to CNET.
Mr Mantel is a co-founder of Suse Linux and has now been rehired by Novell.
