IDC lowers its PC sales 2006 forecast
IDC has adjusted its forecast for PC sales, the analyst has announced.

Citing slowing growth in the US during the previous quarter as a factor, IDC has reduced the number of PCs it expects to be sold in 2006 by one per cent.

PC shipments worldwide were up by 9.1 per cent in the third quarter, but sales in the US and Europe did not keep pace.

And IDC suggested that the trend shows that businesses are lengthening their PC replacement cycles.

"The third quarter reflected slower growth in desktops that will continue to constrain the market," said Bob O'Donnell, vice president of clients and displays at IDC.

"However, more replacements beginning in late 2007 and increasing specialisation in designs will support higher growth down the road."

A recent survey of PC retailers in the US by Current Analysis found that around 65 per cent of PCs sold in 2006 to date were notebooks.
