Social networking is most popular Google search
Google has announced the top ten searches that people carried out on its engine in 2006, revealing social networking sites at the top of the pile.

Bebo, followed by MySpace, topped the rankings compiled by the search engine giant, beating the World Cup – the soccer event which took place in Germany this year – in to third place.

In terms of news searches, Google users were more curious about events concerning Paris Hilton than any other matter. News items featuring Orlando Bloom were the second most sought after, with cancer in third place.

The question on the tip of more users' tongues than any other was "Who is Borat?", while quizzical surfers also asked about the Hezbollah and drugs, the BBC reports.

Meanwhile, RealNetworks has announced that Zylom – the publisher and distributor of free online games – has been voted as the UK's most popular website of 2006 by the pan-European people's choice awards.
