Broadband access for €2 per day 'targets younger customers'
Orange and Apple have agreed a deal which will see French customers gain access to both a microcomputer and a broadband internet connection for the equivalent of €2 (£1.34) per day.
Under the terms of the agreement, the telecommunications giant will provide a 1 Mbps broadband connection for €60 per month, or 8 Mbps for a higher rate tariff, while the computer developer will hire out a MacBook laptop.
The deal is intended to showcase the benefits of a broadband internet connection to younger web users in France who may feel that they cannot afford long-term broadband deals and a high-specification computer.
It is thought that the service will initially be available exclusively to Gallic customers, although it could potentially be rolled out to other countries in the future.
Commenting on the linkup, Louise-Pierre Wenes, executive director of Orange's owners France Telecom, told Macworld: "It seems appropriate to link the Orange brand with that of Apple, famous for its product innovation and ease of use."
High-speed broadband connections can enable web users to download films and music much more rapidly than is possible on dial-up connections.
