European Commission to develop continent-wide wireless frequency
The European Commission has announced plans for a continent-wide radio frequency to allow harmonised use of wireless devices within the European Union (EU).

As part of the development an array of short-range wireless products and communication devices, including computer keyboards and bluetooth will be useable anywhere in the EU, reports PC Advisor.

It is hoped by the commission that the move will mean manufacturers will only need to make one product and reduce the price of wireless devices across the region.

The development is one of a programme of changes designed to promote the use of a collective spectrum in throughout Europe.

Collective spectrum use will underpin a range of wireless applications such as wireless computer networks, medical devices and industrial equipment, claims the commission.

"Public Wi-Fi services depend entirely on collective use of spectrum," said the authors of a recent report from the European Commission into collective spectrum.
