SMEs taking up converged telecoms |
Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are committing to converged telecoms, according to a new poll.
A report by The Bathwick Group on behalf of Orange found that handheld computers, mobile phones and broadband are the top investment priorities for SMEs, as well as voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) and virtual private networks (VPN).
Currently, over 80 per cent of the companies polled are using VPNs, while 57 per cent use VoIP, vnunet reports.
And over 51 per cent said that a single supplier solution would make their business easier to manage and more cost-effective.
Jason Ellis, head of convergence at Orange Business Services UK was quoted by Byggaktuelt as saying: "The smallest businesses would seem to gain most from single suppliers, given their limited management resources. "That a minority are prepared to pay a premium to do so indicates a trend in that direction."
Yesterday, manufacturers at the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication Forum announced the addition of IP capabilities to cordless digital telephones halfway through 2007, VoIP News reports.
