Time Warner looking for new deals to boost AOL |
Time Warner is looking to strike deals with internet advertising companies to add to its AOL internet service, its chief executive has said.
Speaking at a Credit Suisse media and telecom conference, Richard Parsons said that the company was looking for horizontal opportunities to expand in the advertising space sector.
In August, AOL decided to give away the majority of its services for free in a bid to bolster advertising sales. The months since the switch away from a subscription-supported service have seen shares rise by 24 per cent.
Mr Parsons refused to say which companies AOL would consider, but asserted: "Almost anything you could think of other than the really big established portals is within striking distance for us."
He denied that Time Warner would sell off the US-based division of its internet access business, as it has in Europe.
Meanwhile, AOL has been voted as the second-best broadband internet service provider in the UK.
According to the 2006 UK Broadband Internet Service Providers Satisfaction Study, which surveyed 1,438 users across the UK, AOL lost out to Telewest, but came out top in the image stakes.
