Moving your web site - the basics
Following a few basic steps will ensure that you move your site painlessly and avoid distruption.
Step 1 - Choose your hosting plan 
The first step is to determine which hosting plan is for you. As always our friendly sales advisors will be happy to
discuss your requirements and recommend a hosting plan based on your requirements. Don't worry - we won't try and sell you anything you don't need - no high pressure sales here!
Once you have chosen your hosting plan you'll need to sign up online and wait for your activation notice and control panel login details which should follow within minutes.
Your activation notice contains important information including the location you'll need to upload your files to and the username and password needed to do so.
Step 2 - Configure your account settings and upload your site
When you have your control panel details log in and click the mail icon. You'll need to create any mailboxes you need. The process is quite streight forward.
Once you have your activaton notice and login details you're ready to upload your content. Download your content from your existing hosting provider and upload to your new web sites httpdocs directory.
If you need a database then you'll need to login to your control panel and use the database manager tool to create a database and database user. Once done you'll most likely need to tweak your code
Step 3 - Test everything works as it should
Test your web site and make any tweaks you need to make or code adjustments. Our support team will advise if you are unsure of anything, and while they won't rewrite your web site or code for you, they will point you in the right direction. The preview option in your control panel will let you view your web site before you transfer your domain name or go live.
Once you are happy that your site works OK, test again! You might have missed something. Once done, you are ready for the final step.
Step 4 - Move your domain name(s)
The final step - move your domain name. Depending on your previous ISP you'll need to either ask them directly or you may have a control panel from where you can initiate the transfer. We have seperate article detailing how to transfer a domain name to us.
